Wednesday, January 27. Breakfast at hotel. check out. meet Jennifer at 9:30 a.m. Spend morning walking around more of gulang yu. buy a flowering plant (azalea?) for Jennifer's parents. see her primary school. Back to hotel to get electric cart at 12:20 down to ferry dock. Drive to airport. Flight to Guangzhou uneventful. In Guangzhou, I have to claim my luggage and check in all over again. guangzhou airport is huge. The flight to Huangshan is at gate B115. I find everything with no problem but the time for boarding comes and goes. the flight is supposed to leave at 18:30 but then they put up a new time of 20:10. but then that time comes and goes. i finally am able to find out that the flight is delayed because it is raining in Huangshan. oh well. i'm glad they're being careful. i'd rather get there late but safely. thank goodness i have my kindle and a good book to read!
interesting tidbit: the airline hands out water, crackers and canned congee to everyone waiting for the flight to huangshan. can you imagine an american airline doing that?
we finally board at about 9 but then the flight doesn't actually take off until 9:45. arrive at huangshan airport at around 11, collect luggage and walk to exit. am really happy to see a sign with a smiling face behind it! he says "call me joe" - turns out his name is Zhou Hai Jun, so "Joe" makes perfect sense. The airport is not far from the city (which is actually called Tunxi) so it's a relatively short drive to the hotel. Huangshan International Hotel. I'm upgraded to the 5-star section. Really nice room. All i want to do is take a shower and get to bed. Joe and I agree that we will do She Xian tomorrow since not as long a day - so we can start later!
